What’s new at the Church of the Holy Rude?
Looking for something to do this summer? Why not come and re-discover the beautiful Church of the Holy Rude? Situated at the top of Stirling’s Old Town, the team at the Church will be delighted to give you an introductory tour to ensure you make the most of your visit. The Church is one of only three places of worship in the UK where a royal coronation has taken place. Visit the spot where Mary Queen of Scots’ infant son was crowned King James VI of Scotland in July 1567.
New this year is a children’s activity booklet – ideal for our young visitors to explore the Church and enjoy having a bit of fun while learning a little of the Church’s history.
The Church gift shop also has a lovely new selection of retail goods, giving visitors the opportunity to purchase a quality memento of their visit. Many of the goods are made locally. With some lovely bespoke items and a range of price points to suit everyone, the gift shop is the perfect place to pick up a gift or treat yourself.
Cowane’s hospital is across the courtyard from the Church – why not read the story of John Cowane in the ‘Stirling Legends’ book stocked in the Church gift shop? An anthology of legends from the Stirling area, this volume is a treasure trove of well-known and lesser-known tales around the ancient city of Stirling.
Finish your visit off with a lovely coffee or tea and cake from McMillan’s Coffee Hatch at Cowane’s – a great place to refuel after a visit to the Church.
